Malick Sene
Hann Baykeeper
Malick Sene is the co-founder of and program coordinator for Hann Baykeeper in Senegal. Hann Baykeeper was the first Waterkeeper group in Africa. Malick has been promoting citizen advocacy and activism to protect waterways and help chart a course for sustainable development in West Africa and North America for many years. His passion for environmental activism comes from his family background.
At a young age, his fisherman father shaped him to become a marine biologist and a dedicated voice for protecting community fisheries in Guet Ndar (the mouth of the Senegal River). His mother provided him with all the necessary support and mapped the road through education and very good cuisine.
He loves spending his busy days between North America (Ontario and New Brunswick- Canada) and Africa (Senegal, Morocco, and Burkina Faso) studying, working, or just enjoying the beauty and the diversity of natural ecosystems and their communities around the world.
Malick is also a biologist, a certified environmental impact assessor, and a father of two young boys who love hockey and electronics more than Mother Nature!
