María joined the Waterkeeper Alliance team in 2021 as an Organizer for the North Atlantic, Great Lakes, and Chesapeake regions. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia and raised in Queens, New York.
Before joining Waterkeeper Alliance, she worked in a wide variety of fields and locations, including in urban farming in Pittsburgh, refugee assistance in Japan, and freelance writing in New York. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in African and African-American Studies from Stanford University. Her work and academic experiences have given her a unique glimpse into the impact of water issues on diverse communities and she is eager to contribute to solutions in any way she can.
Outside of work, she enjoys writing, watching anime, and hanging out at the beach.
