Mary Beth Postman
Deputy Director
Since 6/1/99
Mary Beth Postman serves as Deputy Director of Waterkeeper Alliance, overseeing excellence in organizational management, including oversight for fundraising, communications/marketing, and movement-building teams. Mary Beth played a pivotal role in the formation of Waterkeeper Alliance and has since fought and advocated for local communities around the globe to protect and preserve their quality of life.
Mary Beth’s love of water stems from her childhood in southeastern Pennsylvania playing in the waters of Marsh Creek, family barbecues at Ridley Creek State Park, and summers at the Jersey Shore. On her second day of college, she was lucky enough to land her work-study job at the legal clinics at Pace Law School and the environmental clinic’s primary client, Hudson River Fisherman’s Association (now Riverkeeper). She fell deeply in love with being part of the team protecting the mighty Hudson. Their successes spawned the Waterkeeper movement.
Previously, Mary Beth was Chief of Staff to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., where she oversaw and facilitated all operations for Mr. Kennedy’s environmental work to hold polluters accountable for Hudson Riverkeeper, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Waterkeeper Alliance. In addition, she managed all of Mr. Kennedy’s speeches, media appearances, and publications as well as his weekly radio show, Ring of Fire. Mary Beth also served as Administrator of the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic at Pace Law School where she worked with America’s brightest environmental law students year after year as they completed coursework in an exceptional educational model. Mary Beth co-authored WATERSHED FOR $ALE: Explosive Development Threatens New York City’s Drinking Water Supply.
Mary Beth received her Bachelor of Arts in International Management with a minor in Marketing from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. Mary Beth was appointed in 2013 to the Haworth Environmental Commission and received the 2014 “Big Fish” award from Hudson Riverkeeper along with Chelsea Clinton and Solar City.
Mary Beth lives with her husband and son in Haworth, NJ. They can be found along the Tenakill or Oradell reservoir on weekends if not ardently cheering on their favorite Premier League Team, Tottenham Hotspurs.
