Rashema Ingraham
Bimini Coastal Waterkeeper and Waterkeepers Bahamas
Rashema T. Ingraham, the real-deal Grand Bahamian, and descendant of a fisherman from Bimini, is an ambassador for the environment.
It was her late grandfather who opened her eyes to the waterworld and nature at large, taking her into his self-made canoes when she was much younger to catch fish and conch for the night’s enjoyment.
She finds peace and tranquility in or near the water, walking through quiet pine forest tracks, or just enjoying the sounds of waves crashing the shoreline, and spends many weekends at the beach with her two children, Xaria and Reece.
Living in The Bahamas is ideal for an adventurist like Rashema who has dived into blue holes, swam with wild dolphins, and had close, magical encounters with stingrays.
Rashema is a certified paralegal who has 5 years of legal experience, working closely on environmental litigation matters. However, her life has been enriched by participating in beach clean-ups and litter-free campaigns, and volunteering in similar capacities.
She is the co-founder of GB Envirobins, a non-profit community-service company that places trash receptacles along the main streets on Grand Bahama Island to encourage a trash-free environment.
She is a trained leadership facilitator, and has spent the past 4 years incorporating leadership training into a vibrant environmental youth program with Save The Bays. She also works with Waterkeepers Bahamas, where she focuses on education and citizen action for clean water use, making presentations to schools, church and youth groups.
Believe it or not, she has a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management from the College of The Bahamas (now University of The Bahamas), and understands the value our natural resources have in maximizing our tourism product.
She loves to end by saying that is married to Mr. Xavier Ingraham, co-founder of GB Envirobins.
