Lake Erie Waterkeeper serves the Lake Erie watershed from the headwaters of the Maumee River in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the eastern end of Lake Erie. Lakeke Erie is an amazing lake and there is a tale to be told by its rivers too. Lake Erie is the shallowest of all the Great Lakes and has more consumable fish than all the other Great Lakes combined. Lake Erie’s great fishery supports 10,000 jobs per year and boost the economies by over $1 billion annually. Lake Erie is the Walleye Capital of the World – people come from all over the world to fish these waters.
Sandy Bihn became Western Lake Erie Waterkeeper in 2004. Elected to the City Council of Oregon, Ohio in 2005, Sandy is also the former finance director for the city. Sandy serves as Western Lake Erie Sierra Club Conservation Chair; as a board member of Ohio Citizen Action, as a board member Duck and Otter Creek Watershed, on the advisory committee of the Maumee Area of Concern remedial action plan, and numerous other committees and projects. She serves as Executive Director of the Maumee Bay Association and president of the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation Society.
