Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates across U.S. join effort
Waterkeeper Alliance and 94 Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates across the United States sent a letter today to 535 Members of Congress asking for Congress to take urgent action to pressure the Trump administration to remove and replace Scott Pruitt as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.
As EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt has been entrusted to protect Americans and the environment from pollution and enforce federal regulations and laws, including the Clean Water Act. Administrator Pruitt has fallen far short of that mark by entirely ignoring urgent environmental and public health issues that require EPA’s attention.
One of the primary functions that EPA is tasked with is protecting and improving our nation’s water quality. Currently, there are undisputed, serious challenges facing our waterways that have far-reaching public health impacts. Administrator Pruitt has instead focused his attention on efforts to roll back, weaken, and repeal our environmental protections.
In addition to his ever-expanding litany of ethical, financial, administrative, and legal breaches, Administrator Pruitt is attempting to undermine EPA and its mission and has abused his position of power to lead EPA in a series of poorly executed and blatantly anti-environmental regulatory actions that are not consistent with the law. Many, if not all, of these efforts will ultimately be unsuccessful and a massive waste of taxpayer resources.
“Scott Pruitt isn’t draining the swamp—he is the swamp,” said Waterkeeper Alliance Executive Director Marc Yaggi. “His diabolic efforts on behalf of polluting industries present devastating threats to the air we breathe and the water we drink. The consequences of his gross incompetence jeopardize the health and welfare of our children’s future.”
Waterkeeper Alliance will continue to advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of those that depend on clean water and plans to defeat Administrator Pruitt’s hasty and sloppy rulemakings and rollbacks in court.
