The Sauver la Mer et la Pêche/Save Our Coast and Fisheries Campaign

The Sauver la Mer et la Pêche/Save Our Coast and Fisheries campaign, jointly led by Waterkeeper Alliance, Hann Baykeeper, and Bargny Coast Waterkeeper, addresses the socio-economic and environmental threats posed by offshore oil and gas drilling in Senegal.

While promoted as a source of economic development offshore drilling is a risky, dirty-energy venture, trapping Senegal in debt while decimating traditional economies.

The campaign’s primary goal is to halt or delay offshore drilling activities while promoting sustainable coastal development and protecting local fisheries.

While promoted as a source of economic development, offshore drilling is a risky, dirty-energy venture, trapping Senegal in debt while decimating traditional economies. Oil spills, microplastic pollution, and industrial activity threaten Senegal’s rich biodiversity, from unique cold water coral reefs to UNESCO biospheres, home to migratory birds, sea turtles, and mangroves.

Led by ecologists, activists, and community leaders on the ground in Senegal, the Sauver la Mer et la Pêche campaign is a struggle for transparency and democratic participation, for the right of communities to build a more sustainable, equitable, and healthy future for generations to come.
