We Continue Our Fight - Waterkeeper

We Continue Our Fight

By: Marc Yaggi

As news of yesterday’s U.S. Presidential election reverberates around the world, we want to assure you that it will not deter the Waterkeeper movement’s global work fighting for social justice, strong communities, and healthy waterways. On the contrary, Waterkeeper Alliance will be more ambitious than ever in its efforts to continue to strengthen and grow a global network of grassroots leaders protecting everyone’s right to clean water. We will continue to hold polluters accountable. We will continue to fight for swimmable, drinkable, and fishable water everywhere.

Waterkeeper Alliance is the largest and fastest growing non-profit focused solely on clean water. We preserve and protect water by connecting local Waterkeeper organizations worldwide.  We are a grassroots, voice-of-the-people organization. We are on the ground and represent the people and their waterways. It is time for our people’s movement to increase their voice and speak out. It is time for new leaders to step forward.

We must remember that:

  • We are united. People in literally every country are fighting for clean water— many in the toughest conditions imaginable. We believe in our collective strength as an international force.
  • This is a fight for clean water. Waterkeeper Alliance’s resolute defense of environmental laws through hard-hitting advocacy and litigation will be challenged by industry efforts to weaken the law and to provide polluters with exemptions from environmental regulation. We will never give in to these pressures.
  • This is a fight for our future. Waterkeepers are leading the fight against misguided and destructive fossil-fuel projects that are the chief culprits in the dangerously increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Our work now is more important than ever and we will never back down.

We now have a historic wakeup call that presents us with the opportunity to dramatically amplify environmentalism as the voice of the people, a voice more determined and impassioned than that  of corporate power. Together, we will persevere. Together, we are stronger than ever.

To clean water,

Marc Yaggi
