Waterkeeper Alliance Responds to Outcome of 2024 U.S. Presidential Election

By: Marc Yaggi

In response to the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Waterkeeper Alliance CEO Marc Yaggi calls for strong, scientifically sound action to protect American waterways, public health, and economic resilience:

“This is a pivotal moment for clean water in our country. Waterkeeper Alliance will continue to fight for the rights of our communities by advocating for a strong water policy agenda that prioritizes scientifically sound federal laws and policies, while defending the quality, accessibility, and affordability of clean water for all.

Through every shift of the political landscape, our purpose and passion for protecting water remains unchanged. Waterkeeper groups in the U.S. and around the world see the clear threats and critical need to protect public health and the environment, while securing sustainable water resources that are essential for economic growth and stability. We stand united with the global Waterkeeper movement to defend and strengthen clean water policies and regulations at all levels of government. Navigating the challenges of the political spectrum is never easy, but we will stay on course because clean water is a bipartisan issue.

There is no time to waste: the President-elect and lawmakers must listen to local communities—particularly those most impacted by water pollution—and act in their best interest for safeguarding drinking water, healthy waterways, and resilient economies.”

Waterkeeper Alliance released its clean water policy agenda for the incoming Trump administration to advance clean water protections, safeguard public health, and foster economic prosperity.

Waterkeeper Alliance and its global movement of more than 300 Waterkeeper groups worldwide remain steadfast in our commitment to fighting for clean, accessible water—grounded in sound science and the belief that clean water is a fundamental right for all people.
