Trump Administration Announces Its Most Destructive Attack on the Clean Water Act

By: Waterkeeper Alliance

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have finalized the Trump administration’s most environmentally destructive and dangerous regulation to date — eliminating decades-old Clean Water Act protections against toxic, radiological, biological, and chemical pollution for the majority of the nation’s waters. Uncontrolled pollution discharged into waterways will contaminate drinking water, fisheries, beaches, and recreational waters. This is unethical and illegal; Waterkeeper Alliance will fight this attack with every tool at our disposal.

Statement from Kelly Hunter Foster, Waterkeeper Alliance Senior Attorney:

“Eliminating Clean Water Act protections for all of these waters is incredibly dangerous and will do great damage to people, communities, farmers, businesses, and fish and wildlife. This regulation effectively guts a bipartisan law that has protected the public interest since 1972, and it does so solely to satisfy a few powerful corporate interests. We will all bear the burden of this choice with our health, our money, and the destruction of the places we love. That is why we will fight to get this illegal regulation overturned.”
