By: Waterkeeper Alliance
On six continents, Waterkeeper Alliance has over 300 Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates fighting for healthy waterways, many of those along coasts taking on issues that affect our oceans.
Along the coast of California, California Coastkeeper Alliance actively urges regulators to take actions to mitigate climate change and the ocean acidification that goes with it. On the infamous black beaches of waste rock in Santa Rosalía, Mexico, Santa Rosalia Coast Waterkeeper works to protect the diminishing marine wildlife and prevent molecular changes in algae due to high elevations of copper and cadmium. On Hann Bay in Senegal, Hann Baykeeper and Bargny Coast Waterkeeper suffer from sea level rise and extreme storms. Oceans are an essential part of this planet, covering two-thirds of Earth’s surface and with over three billion people relying on it for their livelihoods.
This June, in preparation for World Ocean Day on June 8th, Waterkeeper Alliance is joining a collective voice of boaters, sailors and friends to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime event to promote conservation and sustainable use of the world’s oceans. Join us to show your love for our oceans and waterways at the Ocean March in New York City on June 4th.
On June 5th, World Environment Day, the United Nations meets for the Ocean Conference to discuss SDGx14, one of the 17 goals laid out by world leaders at the historic 2015 UN Summit to mobilize efforts towards a sustainable future for people and the planet. Heads of state, ministers, marine experts, members of civil society and the business community will gather to discuss the rapidly deteriorating health of the world’s oceans and how they can be saved. Send them a message by joining an armada of thousands of concerned citizens who have answered the call to protect our oceans and waterways from pollution and abuse.
By participating in the official Ocean March in New York City June 4th, organizing your own local March, or supporting the cause through social media by using #saveourocean, you can make a difference.
