This year marked the 16th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Leading global brokerage company Cantor Fitzgerald and its affiliate BGC Partners lost 658 friends and colleagues and 61 Eurobrokers employees that day. To honor their memory, the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund was born to support victims of terrorism, emergencies and natural disasters.
Charity Day is held each year to commemorate September 11. On Charity Day, Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners donate 100% of their global revenues from the day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, which distributes them to dozens of charities around the world. Among these are groups dedicated to saving lives through medical research, developing the emotional and physical skills of youth from underdeveloped communities through sports, and helping young adults from underprivileged backgrounds receive an education.
Waterkeeper Alliance is honored to be a recipient for the second year in a row alongside these inspirational causes for our work holding polluters accountable. We unite a global network of over 300 Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates protecting more than 2.6 million square miles of rivers, lakes and coastal waterways on 6 continents.
We were invited to BGC Partners’ New York office, where brokers spent the day raising millions of dollars for charity. Waterkeeper Alliance President Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. attended and spent time speaking with employees on the trading floor and learning more about the numerous great causes supported.
“We at Waterkeeper Alliance are so grateful to Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners for commemorating 9/11, a terrible tragedy, by recommitting itself to our community,” Mr. Kennedy said. “Charity Day calls on all of us to recall and renew the unity, courage and generosity that held our city and nation together after 9/11.”
We look forward to bringing the positive energy from Charity Day with us each day into our global fight for clean waters.
