Bahía de Banderas Waterkeeper is dedicated to restoring, protecting, and preserving the waterways in all of Mexico's Bahía de Banderas region.

Bahía de Banderas in Mexico has historically been known as a water paradise. But over the years, rampant development and collective negligence by those attracted to its natural beauty have become a massive problem—the bay now suffers from severe pollution. Bahía de Banderas Waterkeeper will mobilize the local community and its visitors to understand the problem and be a part of the solution in advocating for improved waste and water management and enforcement of environmental regulations.

Bahía de Banderas Waterkeeper will lead initiatives to test and treat the water quality by collecting data on bacteria, nutrients, and chlorophyll levels. We will use the results to directly advocate for upgrades to septic systems and treatment facilities, to further public education on environmental harm caused by fertilizers and pesticides, and to make improvements to many stormwater outfalls.

By promoting peer learning, sharing successful strategies, and providing technical and legal expertise, we will expand our impact and reduce pollution.

Together, we plan to restore the waterways in Bahía de Banderas back to the way nature intended.
