It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 50 years since the Clean Water Act (CWA) went into effect, and it’s hard to imagine where we would be without it.
The CWA was a game-changer for heroes like you who love and respect our planet and are willing to do what is necessary to ensure a clean, safe future for our waterways for generations to come.
It was a great start, but there is still much work to do. Before the CWA went into effect, the tools to fight the environmental carnage caused by corrupt corporations were limited. More battles were lost than won, and the environment was in dire straits.
The CWA provides the legal tools we need to stand up to corrupt corporations and politicians.
We make a difference for the environment and hold polluters accountable, like in Point Comfort, Texas…
Formosa’s Point Comfort plant was releasing plastic powder and pellets, known as “nurdles,” into Lavaca Bay. Diane Wilson was not going to let Formosa ruin this natural treasure and filed a CWA lawsuit. She collected and documented the hideous and dangerous pollutants for nearly four years and won the biggest settlement ever for a private citizen — $50 million!
A federal judge recognized the severity of Formosa’s conduct, labeling the company a “serial polluter!” In addition to the $50 million to be paid out to environmental restoration projects in the area, Formosa was required to clean up ALL of their pollution in the area and reach “zero discharge” of plastic waste going forward.
With your support, we can fight corrupt corporations, and we CAN win!
But there are still thousands of corporations that are not being held responsible.
We need your help.
