The Bheri River is one of the main tributaries of the Karnali River that originates in the Himalayan glaciers and is now threatened by hydropower projects. The river is being diverted for the Babai Hydropower project, resulting in a lack of water supply for people living in the watershed. Working with Karnali River Waterkeeper, the Bheri River Affiliate facilitates many community education activities, river cleanups, river festivals, and workshops for the local people to understand the importation of river conservation while advocating for improved river management policies.
Bhakta Bahadur Shahi is a local resident of Dailekh district, Karnali zone. He is an active community member and leading reporter at the district’s oldest daily newspaper, the National Gorkhapatra, writing about water problems on the Bheri River and action plans to solve them.
