The Indus River in Ladakh, India is part of a major transboundary river system that begins in the glaciers of western Tibet, flows north through Jammu & Kashmir in India, and bends south through Pakistan into the Arabian Sea.  The Indus River, its tributaries, and communities are increasingly subject to devastating floods from extreme weather events, draught from rapid glacier melt, and unsafe drinking water resources degraded by plastic pollution.  Himalayan Glacier Waterkeeper Affiliates have joined the Waterkeeper movement, inspired by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa’s dedication to living harmoniously with the environment, and his efforts to ensure that people are prepared to protect and reverse the effects of climate change.

Venerable Tsetan Tashi is the Hemis Gonpa Himalayan Glacier Waterkeeper Affiliate. "With the offering of clean water may we purify our body, speech and mind and generate generosity, compassion and wisdom."
