The Lower Savannah River Alliance works as community stewards in seven different counties in two states to promote responsible use of the river. We serve: Burke, Effingham & Screven Counties in Georgia and Allendale, Barnwell, Hampton & Jasper counties in South Carolina.
The mission of the Lower Savannah River Alliance is to develop, coordinate, evaluate, facilitate, market and implement opportunities for the development and enhancement of nature-based businesses within the Lower Savannah River Region. Dave Mewborn was born and raised in Athens, Georgia. His first experiences outside were with his father—playing, hunting, fishing, camping—which immersed him in the outdoors. Dave enjoyed studying performance arts in middle and high school, playing in the marching band, jazz band, chorus, and musical theatre. He studied Outdoor Recreation (Natural and Cultural Resource Management) at Georgia Southern University, where he met several friends who were guiding rivers in East Tennessee. One friend was a partial owner of a rafting company on the Ocoee River, and soon Dave started guiding guests on treks outside with High Country Adventures. After years as a professional guide, Dave became the River Manager and guide trainer for High Country. A chance at advanced education and his love for Savannah brought him back to Coastal Georgia where he found a job opportunity doing outreach for Savannah Riverkeeper. Dave now lives in Savannah with his longtime love & girlfriend, Jordan, and their dog Ernie. He is excited to get Savannah Riverkeeper's message out to the area, help bring interest to the Lower Savannah River Alliance, and promote eco-tourism opportunities in the Savannah River Basin.
