The St. Clair Channel flows between Lake Huron and Lake Erie at a rate of 5 billion gallons per minute which makes it second in volumce only to the Mississippi River. Lake St. Clair, a part of the connecting channel, supports a fishery in which 48% of the Great Lakes fishing effort is spent and 33% of the catch is made.
