The Huai River originates from the Tongbai Mountains in the western part of Henan Province, flowing through 181 cities in 5 provinces including Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Shandong and Jiangsu. The Huai watershed is home to a number of outstanding historical figures, including scholars like Confucius, Mencius, and Laozi, and other historical figures such as Liu Bang, Xiang Yu, and Cao Cao. The Huai River is one of the most polluted watersheds in China due to industrial pollution, agricultural pollution and household wastes.
Daishan Huo began as a photographer and later became the nationally-known “Huai River Guardian," as a result of revealing the great lie of Huai River pollution management. His work has been reported by several media outlets and has greatly influenced the country.
