Surma River Waterkeeper



Surma, a transboundary river in Bangladesh, is one of the most important rivers of the Brahmaputra-Borak-Meghna river basin in South-east Asia. Civilization by the bank of Surma can be dated back to 4,000 B.C. Sand mining, industrial pollutions, and encroachments threaten the river.

Abdul Karim Chowdhury Kim has been organizing civil society morevement in Sylhet for more than twenty-five years addressing social, environmental and cultural issues. He is now recognized as one of the most interviewed spokesmen on environmental issues in Sylhet.
