The Yamuna River originates from Yamunotri at Uttrakhand in India. It is called by the name of 'Kalindi' as it flowed from the Himalaya at the hill of Kalinda Mountain, and rushed with a gurgling sound in the form of a great river. It flows through many religious places of Braj region. The mid lower section of the Yamuna River stretches from downstream of Delhi to Etawah in the State of Uttar Pradesh, Agra City, home of the famous Taj Mahal.
Pandit Ashwini Kumar is the founding president of Guru Vaishishtha Manav Sarvangin Vikas Sewa Samiti since 1990. He became a member of Waterkeeper Alliance in 2009 as the Mid Lower Yamuna Riverkeeper. He has been working under the mission "Pure Yamuna" since 2000, and is known as ‘Yamuna Satyagrahi.’
