The Huai River originates in Henan Province, which flows through Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces. The Huai area is an important industrial and agricultural region in central China. However, the rapid development has put the river and its communities in great danger. The River is threaten by industrial and agricultural pollutiants, household waste, dams, heavy metal, and water shortage.
Xiang Zhou is the Executive Director of Green Anhui (parent organization of Middle Huai River Waterkeeper). He was a visiting scholar of the U.S. Department of State in 2011, and the Ginkgo Fellow in 2012. Mr. Zhou has been committed in pollution prevention and control as well as environmental legislation and policy advocacy for long. Before joining Green Anhui, he has worked on biological diversity at various international environmental organizations.
