The mission of the Cahaba Riverkeeper is to defend the ecological integrity of the Cahaba River and tributaries and watershed. Cahaba Riverkeeper seeks to ensure clean water, a healthy aquatic environment, and the recreational and aesthetic values of the Cahaba. Cahaba Riverkeeper will investigate and bring to justice environmental lawbreakers who threaten the rights of every citizen to enjoy this water resource.

Recent Accomplishments

--Convinced Leeds City Council to veto the Mayor's plan to locate a new fire station complex on a floor plain site, next to the city's water supply intake and a few hundred yards from the Little Cahaba river.
--Continues to speak out against the development of a beltline that will cross the headwaters of the Cahaba River and a proposed elevated highway that will also impact the river.
--Article in Birmingham News citing release of drilling mud by large public utility raised awareness of need for citizen monitoring and reporting of environmental violations.
--Established organization and enrolled over 20 new members within first 6 months.
